Protecting our natural resources
We believe that protecting natural resources is an important part of our commitment to environmental stewardship.

In response to the urgent need to address climate change, Peaskie Minerals and Mill Creek Sand & Gravel are committed to minimizing the impact of our operations on the environment. We have made reducing greenhouse gas emissions and control of water consumption a top priority for both our plants and fleet.

We have converted our main wash facilities from fossil fuel to grid power reducing our diesel fuel consumption in excess of 1 million liters annually. In addition to reducing emissions from our operations, we also work to reduce emissions from transportation. We have implemented a number of measures to reduce emissions by optimizing routes to reduce travel distances, investing in more fuel-efficient vehicles, and converting plant operations from fossil fuels to permanent electrical operations.

We continuously search for ways to minimize water consumption at our plants. Our wash facilities recover over 95% of the 2.5 billion gallons of water used in the washing process per year. All our water is pulled from a closed loop system.

Our company will continue to invest in technologies and promote awareness of protecting the environment. We will continue to encourage our employees, contractors, and suppliers to take action to reduce their environmental impact.

BIODIVERSITY IMPACTS

PRESERVE NATURAL ECOSYSTEMS

We understand that our operations can have a significant impact on biodiversity, and we are committed to minimizing these impacts and promoting sustainable practices.

To mitigate the potential impacts of our operations, we conduct thorough environmental assessments prior to any new project or expansion of an existing operation. These assessments help us to identify any sensitive areas or species of concern, and we work to develop mitigation measures that minimize any potential impacts.

We also work to promote the restoration and conservation of natural habitats. We recognize that some of our operations may impact habitats, and we take steps to restore these areas as part of our commitment to preserving biodiversity.

In addition, we actively monitor our operations to ensure that we are operating in compliance with environmental regulations and industry standards. We work to reduce our environmental impact by implementing best practices for the management of waste, water, and air quality.

Reclamation

At Peaskie Minerals and Mill Creek Sand & Gravel, we understand the vital importance of environmental stewardship in the extraction and processing of sand and gravel. As a cornerstone of our operations, we are deeply committed to sustainable practices and responsible land reclamation. While our operations may alter the landscape, we approach reclamation with the goal of transforming these sites into sustainable habitats and landscapes that serve both environmental and community needs.

This may involve creating end pit lakes where suitable, but also encompasses other forms of restoration, such as wildlife habitats, wetlands, forested areas, or recreational areas.

Our reclamation efforts go beyond mere compliance; they reflect our genuine dedication to restoring the land to a new, environmentally friendly state, ensuring its viability for future generations. By leveraging innovative techniques and collaborating closely with environmental experts, we minimize our ecological footprint while maximizing the positive impact on local habitats. At Peaskie Minerals and Mill Creek Sand & Gravel, environmental care isn’t just a regulatory obligation—it’s an integral part of our mission to harmonize industrial progress with the preservation of our precious natural resources.
