Position: Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician

Terms of Employment: Full Time, Permanent

Rate: $48.74/hourly – $52.89/hourly, Overtime after 8 hours per day. Please note these are Journeyman Rates listed above, Apprentice Rates would be prorated accordingly.

Schedule: 7:00AM- 5:00PM- (5 days on / 2 days off )

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Inspects, diagnoses, repairs, replaces, and tests all components of internal combustion engines, starting systems, braking, and steering systems
  • Inspects, diagnoses, adjusts, repairs, replaces, and tests all components of clutches, hydraulic couplings, transmissions, axle assemblies and transfer cases
  • Inspects, repairs and re-assembles suspension systems, frames, tracks, and wheels
  • Inspects, repairs, or replaces equipment to hydraulic system components
  • Supervise and mentor apprentices
  • Diagnosis, Inspects and repairs electrical components such as alternators, starters, solenoids, and relays
  • Ability to use electronic diagnostic tools relevant to the equipment manufacturer
  • Prepares work estimates of labour, cost of parts and writes service reports
  • Interprets technical manuals that are specific to equipment relating to manufacturer specifications and warranty requirements
  • Keeps minor records of task completed and performs other related duties as needed
  • The ability to concentrate on detailed work and maintain high standards of work
  • Mentor apprentice mechanics and provide positive feedback, assist in cross training and contributions in toolbox meetings

Education & Training

  • Possess a Heavy-Duty Mechanic Journeyman Certificate or Red Seal
  • Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license

Experience

  • 5 years of Off Road experience
  • Demonstrates general mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot basic mechanical related issues

Technical Knowledge

  • Extensive knowledge of heavy equipment, maintenance, and repair
  • Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment applicable to the work
  • Working knowledge of current occupational hazards and safety precautions application of the trade

Position: General Labourer

Terms of Employment: Full Time, Seasonal

Rate: $28.04/hourly – $30.28/hourly, Overtime after 8 hours per day

Schedule: 7 days on / 7 days off / 7 nights on / 7 days off- 12 Hours per day.

Duties & Responsibilities

· Remove snow, sand, and other debris from the outside areas of the plant

· Operate various types of equipment (Loader, Aerial lift, etc.) and provide general maintenance as required

· Assist the Wash Plant Operator with screen changes

· Assist with taking and screening quality control samples where necessary

· Responsible for belt changes and general maintenance

· Must be willing to climb plant structures as required

· Provide general housekeeping throughout the plant, shop and equipment areas

Position: Plant/Scale House Operator

Terms of Employment: Full Time, Permanent

Rate: $25.92/hourly – $29.62/hourly, Overtime after 8 hours per day

Schedule: 6 on 3 off Days and Nights – 6:00am-3:30pm, 2:30pm-12:00am

  • Operate various types of equipment (skid steers, man lifts, front-end loader) and provide general maintenance as required
  • Verify product type prior to offloading
  • Provide snow/sand removal of truck scale and outside areas
  • Must be willing to climb bins and elevator towers as required
  • Completes regular routine facility checks and upkeep, “such as bearing greasing”
  • Greet and direct customers and other traffic, answer questions accurately
  • Responsible for receiving incoming inventory into appropriate bin
  • Ensure that incoming loads are safe and do not contain any inappropriate material
  • Answer the telephone and provide general information to callers

Duties and Responsibilities

· Operates truck to destination

· Operates controls to tilt body and dump contents

· Inspects truck equipment which includes tires, brakes, lights, fuel, coolant, hydraulic fluids, exhaust system, cab filter system

· Inspects for any visual leaks or cracks in pre and post trip inspections

· Responsible for the care and condition of the truck while operating

· Monitoring loading operations and ensure load is safe

· Perform required basic maintenance on the truck

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs administrative functions including creating shift schedules, reviewing time sheets, maintaining equipment and inspection logs.
  • Brief crew members about how daily tasks need to be carried out
  • Observe work of employees to confirm correctness of behaviors against procedures and report any concerns to management
  • Handle onsite incidents and emergencies in a proactive manner
  • Oversee and ensure that all safety rules are being followed at all sites at all times
  • Resolve conflicts or miscommunication that may happen on site quickly and amicably with manager support
  • Advise plant crew of production and/or maintenance schedule
  • Manage on-hand material quantities with manager direction
  • Carry out preventative maintenance inspection schedule
  • Repair mechanical issues and troubleshoot plant issues
  • Verify crew is on site on time to start production
  • Provide training for crew members through mentoring, cross training and tool box meetings
  • Monitor load and unload times and report weekly to management
  • Performs pre and post shift inspections and reports condition of plant for items needing repair
  • Shift coverage during rest breaks

Operation Support

  • Operates controls to unload/load material
  • Coordinate truck loadout
  • Verify material supply
  • Maintain adequate spare parts inventory and appropriate tool inventory to preform timely repairs

  • Participate as vital team member and contribute towards the success of the organizations which may involve the provision of other technical and administrative support, as required.

Risk Management, Health & Safety

  • Knowing and understanding the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Knowing, understanding, communicating, and ensuring compliance with company safety policies and procedures
  • Facilitate and encourage engagement in mandatory safety tool box meetings
  • Ensuring completion of initial safety and hazard assessments
  • Works with management and HSE to investigate damage, incidents, or near misses in the worksite, and ensure proper procedures are cared for.

Education & Experience

  • Class 5 Drivers’ License
  • Possess a minimum 3 years of experience in a commercial/industrial construction setting
  • Experience at an asphalt and/or sand and gravel plant is considered an asset
  • 2+ years in industrial plant operation is considered an asset
  • 2+ years in a leadership role

Technical Knowledge

  • 2-3 years of experience operating a loader, skid steer and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner is encouraged
  • Understanding of computerized controls and electronics
  • Demonstrates general mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot basic mechanical related issues
  • Familiarity and competency in Microsoft Office Suite
